Can't wait to have a look around the planet, it will be weird. Smile

And then to think this is only simple Google Earth. So much more awesomeness with VR, like 360° videos, and games can be viewed in true 3D. Not only because of headtracking, but corrected perspective is rendered for each eye, so you get the perception of seeing depth.

Too bad the headset was out of stock when I ordered, so it may take a while. But it is one of the bigger online warehouses here in the country, which are usually pretty quick at restocking.

I'm curious how a normal game like Quakelive plays. I imagine even just sitting in spec looking around will be awesome, but not sure how it will be when playing.

OMG Very Happy it just arrived. Was still waiting for an email saying it was back on stock and send, but now it is already here. Cool

Got to finish what I was doing earlier, so probably going to try it out tomorrow. Surprised

At least compatibility won't be an issue this time, so not much messing around I hope.
With the PSVR I only got to see a few examples, it didn't want to work as expected. The Vive should be more Plug and Play.

I finally set up the Vive ready for use, did some updates and downloaded a few demo's, but still not tried it out much.

When unboxing I was slightly disappointed after I removed the safetypaper that was in front of the lenses to protect from scratches.
No damage or anything, but instead of normal lenses the Vive has fresnel lenses. Apparently this is to prevent chromatic aberation and image distortion, it does work but it also introduces a slight blur.

My problem is I can see those rings, which is caused by the lenses being too far from my eyes. The headset already is as close as possible to my face, but still not close enough. I found out that when I press the goggles real tight to my face it works a lot better, but the foam padding on the vive is too thick, I'd have to strap the Vive supertight too compress the foam. Fortunately it's attached with velcro, so I can take it off and replace it with some thinner padding (window strip or something).

The little VR I did experience so far is really awesome, just not had very much time to try out yet.
And when the weather is good enough, I rather go outside to fly a bit. Smile

The verdict is out, I'm sending it back. No

VR is awesome, but the Vive is not.

Those fresnel lenses totally ruin the experience. Already wrote I was disappointed first time I noticed it after unboxing. Actually first thing I did next, even before finishing the unpacking, was run to my pc and see if there are replacement glasses available, which unfortunately there aren't.

I gave it an honest try, but it seriously hurts my eyes. Compared to the PSVR the image inside the Vive is crap and blurry. Yes less CA, but those concentric circles introduces a weird form of warp in the image. And on top of that it causes very annoying lensflares and mirror effects. It's so bad, often you see the lensflare before the object comes in view.

As I was struggling between "omg this VR shit is awesome" and "omg this Vive sucks, but maybe...", I noticed a pixelsized speck located right in front of my pupil, inside the goggles. That was the final straw sadly. I can't accept it like this, and I'm not going to open it up to clean it.

Going to try to get a Rift now, though maybe i'll wait a bit. Rolling Eyes

Spend an hour repacking the thing. Evil or Very Mad

Really bummed out by this fresnel lens bullshit, what the fuck are they thinking making it like that.
Can't imagine people are using this headset without getting eyeproblems.
More angry then disappointed now, another highly promoted product that turns out to be a expensive piece of crap.
