Linked up to head tracking maybe we have something here.
I've already written some code on a PIC chip to control a 2 axis servo that you can mount a small camera on, controlled via a small thumbstick, has various modes to control damping and interpreation of stick input, basically PID controlled camera... I could modify this to somehow possibly work with head tracking on the Goggles I will eventually have. I might try this on my drone in the future, I know this probably uses one of those cheap brush-less gimbal systems, but I like fiddling with stuff....
After watching those videos I posted the other day on flying tips I'm already thinking of having at least 1 axis control of FPV camera on a servo (lighter than gimbals), so it auto-levels to look at the horizon, just as your head would. This would make FPV flying easier as your view is always forwards and you wouldn't have to tilt the camera aggressively forwards to compensate for not being able to see where your going. I could have fixed or free mode, or anything I choose to have, it's only an idea though, I probably missed an important point, as well as extra weight etc...
It seems the Naze32 I ahve can already do this, ie control servos for camera tilt, awesome, this might be a big no no considering I haven't even flown and tried it out yet, but it's interesting nonetheless.
I also saw this on youtube, now waiting for the follow up video which explains what's happening here.
It's fun to watch and it has possibilities. But I couldn't fly like this FPV the way it is now, maybe once it's more developed. I think this is only a recording with a 360cam on a gimbal, not headtracking.
Not that I can make it, but also had this idea for a fpv cam on a gimbal. But a gimbal is quite fragile, so it would break or get damaged easily in a crash. And though the idea is very nice, you would need goggles that support headtracking.

Could be pretty cool flying FPV this way but I think it would be best to have an artificial horizon from an OSD showing aswell so you always know which way the quad is flying if you get my meaning.

Spotted chaps I suspected this too but it's give me some ideas to play with when I finally get some air miles in... Looks great quality though from that camera regardless of this perhaps over the top way to have FPV... And of course it can't be FPV, it has to be processed, but future setups will have 360 cameras, head tracking and being able to look where you want without any servos or gimbals, ace...
I know what you mean Mucky about the horizon, as you wouldn't know how you craft was tilted as it's being removed by the gimbal so the indication will show you the crafts pitch, as long as it's accurate it should be OK I reckon.
Gimbals are fragile Canner, but It'd be secure on a single axis mount, and moved by a micro servo, most probably attached directly to it, not a fragile gimbal setup. Also it doesn't necessarily have to auto level, you could have 3 different positions on a switch, 30degrees for flying or when Air-mode is on, and 0 degrees when not for example. I could code this in CleanFlight as the source code is available if it's not possible already. something for the future when I've decided it was a bad idea after all hehehe...
Also it's relatively easy to add simple single axis head tracking I reckon, a gyro board simply bolted onto any goggle setup, with a CPU encoding the value, then spitting it out down a wire to your transmitter via a small cable. The inputs are just visible as a pot value like any of the ones already on the Taranis for example as I would make the code spit out the correct values for the full range. Code in CleanFlight would use this value and control the servo position. I made that sound easy, it isn't, but it's possible without some ready made setup already I reckon.
I know what your thinking, just bolt a fecking camera on, and fly the fecking thing lol, I will,. and I'll probably forget about all this.
