PostSubject: UFO sighting 3Danimation (update:part1 finished)   Fri Sep 14, 2018 8:34 pm

Making a new 3Danimation of the UFO sighting I had 20 years ago. This time it will be more correct in how it actually looked.
Instead of the previous one, which was more to show how the UFO looked and what it did.

Here are 2 wips showing the basic setup. Still need to work on the animation, and modeling of the enviroment.
The UFO model is mostly finished, it looked like 2 dimensional polygons, so could not be easier. Only need to make the green orb.

While setting up the scene I realised the UFO must have been huge. The estimated real size you can see in the wireframe viewport below.
I came to this size considering it's flightpath and my own movement across the street.
As I drove along the street I did not get much closer , so their must have been a fair distance between me and the UFO.
Also on the map I can estimate how the UFO probably moved across the landscape.
The only way to get the animation appear correct, is to make the UFO that large, as on the viewport example.

Not going to post progress every day, just wanted to show how large the UFO may have been.

Thanks Cool  Using 3ds Max 2014.

Not the latest and the best, but it works.  Smile

I'm using maps copied from google to get the size and distance realistic as possible.

viewport4

viewport3

I will add more detail and textures to the street and houses, but not aiming for top quality.
Most important now is getting the animation and timing correct. Smile

Took some time to figure out certain things, names and locations changed,
but I managed to get most of the animating done.
Even after years not doing anything with 3dsmax. Smile

That looks great m8,gives a good idea to us what you saw even if
it`s not ultra realistic.
Well presented sir !

P.S. kinda reminded me of Paperboy

Thanks Smile  Still want to improve the modeling a little, but I'm not good enough to make it look great.
Which isn't necessary, but would be nice. Just too long ago I've used 3dsmax, so much has changed.
Wasn't easy, but glad I still managed to get it done.

Very impressive m8y,it gives a good insight into what you saw that evening and
i don`t think anyone can doubt that what you saw is a UFO with the way it released
an ord type device and then disappeared.
Also liked the details in the pathways and grass verges and buildings clap .

Great work buddy !

Thank you

Had to make a certain amount of detail in the enviroment, otherwise it would not be very clear the UFO looked the way it did.
If the surroundings weren't detailed enough it would appear like a simple representation, but that's not the case.
Only thing that's different from reality is that the orb was much more shiney, like a bright star or planet on a clear night.
