Subject: Rift S vs Quest 2 - Which is better for PC VR? Sat Nov 28, 2020 1:25 pm
Quest 2 seems nice and cheap, but looks like it does have some downsides. Although it is 100$ cheaper than Rift S, you need to buy a 80$ Link cable with it to be able to hook it up to the pc. You also need to run virtual desktop and the resolution via pc gets downscaled to 480p (according to this video) At first sight the image looks a little sharper on the Quest2, but overall the Rift S seems to be the better choice.

I went through the set up and tried the dashboard / lobby type thing last night...as soon as i put the headset on i had a panic attack,no idea why, heart racing sweating and shaking, had to put it on and off a few times to get used to it. but wow ! everything is so clear and perfectly 3d and the depth perception is amazing, just wow again.
Need to buy a game today... or 3.

Ha ha Had the same thing first couple of times, at some point you just need to take off the headset and take a breath.
That dinosaur from the Oculus demo is scary as hell, had to take off the headset first times I watched that.
You do get used to it after a while, but not completely.
Now I still take the headset off regulary, every 15-20 minutes or so, just to cool my brain and take a sip of my drink.

I can recommmend you try: Robo Recall, it is a free game in the Oculus store. And Subnautica, you have to experience that in VR. Don't watch youtube videos first, it looks different in VR.

How's the VR going? Everything going well? Have you tried SteamVR yet?
I forgot to mention this Oculus tool I use to help make things run smoother. I figured since you got such a monster pc you probably don't need it, but maybe it helps.
It is called: Oculus Tray Tool (link) It helps with preconfiguring the headset and runs the Oculus with optimal settings.

HalfLife was very cool, but also quite short. I'd try to wait till it is on sale. (Christmas sale maybe?)
Arizona Sunrise is also a nice game, old school zombie shooter, well worth trying.
I'm playing No Mans Sky VR at the moment, it's really awesome, but also difficult to get into. Had to restart the campaign 5-6 times because I kept forgetting what to do. I also tried playing it without VR, but then it's not fun, almost like a different game. Same as Subnautica, without VR it looks a bit silly and like a game for kids. But with VR it's like you're really under water, it feels so realistic I was actually holding breath sometimes.
