Sony’s new patent for a “smart” contact lens includes some pretty cool tech—such as the ability to record and playback images, store them internally, and even autofocus.
The lenses will feature a suite of sophisticated technologies. They’ll use piezoelectric sensors, which convert mechanical energy—pressure, force, etc.—into electrical energy; eye movements, therefore, will be read by these sensors and used to activate the camera or recordings. Power will be supplied by electromagnetic induction, in which a slight electrical current is produced by moving a conductor through a magnetic field.
It’ll even be able to adjust for the tilt of a user’s eye, and use autofocus for blurry images. The technology is all very theoretical and avant-garde right now, but with so many tech companies scrambling to develop and patent the necessary devices, we can probably look forward to seeing these “smart” lenses very soon.

Record and store, are only basic functions ofcourse. Add a layer of OLEDs and the lens will also be able to project image straight into the eye. This will lead to having augmented reality terminator vision. To have the ability to analyse, thermal imaging, nightvision, infrared/uv spectrum, zoom in/out, enjoy VR without headset, etc. Endless possibilities all inside a contact lens.
It's an awesome development, though I wouldn't want to see people wearing these lenses in public. And it's very easy to manipulate peoples minds with this technology, just look at the 'emotion detection' for example. Maybe the guy just has a bad day, or was annoyed for being disturbed while doing his work, so the machine detects aggresion, but is the guy really aggresive?

I was thinking how would it be possible to use the operating system inside the contact lenses?
The answer is actually quite easy, with a augmented interface and image-analysis of handmotion. Like for example you could see a projected keyboard and type on it in the air. The handmotion/position would be linked to the augmented interface. Anything is possible this way, buttons, knobs, switches etc.
