Apparently this type of motor is not new, but trying to make it into a drone motor had not been done before. He even build his own ESC for it, but looks like he stopped working on the drone idea and went on with different projects.

The motor looked powerful enough to produce lift, I wonder why he didn't finish the project and make it into a drone.
